MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Apr. 1) Donald and the Boys scored second and 10th place finishes in the Spring Nationals Double Header weekend at Talladega Short Track and Senoia Raceway.
On Friday night at Talladega McIntosh set fast time and started on the pole of the 40-lap feature. At the drip of the green outside front row starter Dale McDowell would win the drag race for the top spot and go on to lead every lap and take the win with Donald taking second.
“Everything was good and we had a good night,” said David. “The motor was nearly lapped out and down a little on power, but Talladega is not a horse power track. We were good, but when Dale (McDowell) got us on the first lap that was all she wrote.”
After a heat race altercation and a mad thrash to get the car back together they started 11th and finished 10th.
“Last lap of the heat we were outside of Clint Smith and he carried us into the wall. I thought the car was going over and I know the fans were looking at the oil pan. It really trashed the car. Kudos to Donald, Eric and everyone that helped put it back together. I am sure we missed a bunch of stuff, but it was good enough that Donald was able to man handle it for a decent finish.”
“I am not sure what happened there in the heat. I knew we were going to rub, but never thought Clint (Smith) would carry me into the wall,” said Donald. “It was one of those racing deals, but man it really tore up the car.”
Coming up next is the Ultimate Spring Thaw at Volunteer and two Lucas races the first on Friday at 411 and on Saturday at North Georgia Speedway. The first two races are written in stone, but North Georgia has a question mark after it.
