MARYVILLE, Tenn. (July 14) Since winning the OMG Spring Nationals Championship the Blount Motorsports Team has been plagued with mechanical problems and caught up in crashes, but that came to an abrupt halt over the weekend. On Friday night Billy finished Fourth and Tommy fifth in the Smoky Mountain Ultimate race and on Saturday Ogle dominated to win his career first Carolina Clash feature at Volunteer Speedway.
“This is racing and you are going to have a stretch where you can’t catch a break and hopefully ours is behind us,” said David. “We were fast and had good cars only to be sidelined by mechanical problems and a couple of crashes. We have a week now to get the cars ready to go next Monday for the start of the Southern Nationals at Wythe Raceway.”
On Friday night Billy qualified eighth and finished fourth while Tommy won the B main, started 12 and finished fifth. At the end of the race nothing was broken and both cars in one piece so they decided to go to Volunteer on Saturday. On Saturday night Ogle dominated in the Carolina Clash event at Volunteer Speedway taking his first Carolina Clash win.
“I have always liked racing at Volunteer and to come here and be as dominate as we were is something,” grinned Ogle. “The last time we were here we got collected and knocked out of the race on the first lap and that made what we did here tonight really special.”
For the next week the team will be going through Ogle’s car getting it ready for a run at the Southern Nationals Championship. Tommy won the series championship in 2009, Billy was third in points in 2012 and second in 2013. Coming off winning the Spring Nationals Championship the team has their eyes on the big prize in the Southern Nationals this year.
