MARYVILLE, Tenn (Nov. 5) Some nights you can’t buy a break and other nights things just go your way and things went Blount Motorsports way at Smoky Mountain Speedway Saturday night for the SRRS Tear Your Top Off event. BMS drivers Billy Ogle Jr. and Tommy Kerr both experienced problems and both were able to overcome them with Ogle taking the win and Kerr finishing third.
At the drop of the green Ogle and Kerr, who made up the front row, battled for the early lead. Ogle came out on top with Kerr settling into second. Ogle built a good lead and then the engine started to skip and that enabled Kerr to close the gap. When he caught Ogle his right rear tire started going down and he was unable to make the pass or stay with Ogle.
“The engine started missing about 10 laps into the race. As long as stayed on the gas I was able to keep going pretty good, but I was just waiting for everyone to come on by and nobody did,” grinned Ogle shaking his head. “Tommy (Kerr) got to me, but he had his own problems and was never able to make the pass.
You always have races that you should have won get away from you and then there are races like this one that we never should have won. It never evens out, but a race like this helps.”
Kerr’s right rear tire going down cost him the win or at least a second place finish, but it could have been a whole lot worse.
“When Tommy (Kerr) came into the pits after the race was over there were two pounds of air in the right rear. It was one of those nights and for us to come away with a first and third is hard to believe,” commented David Bryant.
BMS heads for the Dirt Track at Charlotte on Thursday to qualify for the Friday and Saturday night features of the WoO World Finals.
