MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 26) Tommy Kerr and the BMS team scored a pair of eighth place finishes in back to back Advance Thunder races this past weekend. With one race remaining in the Thunder Series point race Kerr is out of the point lead for the first time this season 24 points behind Rick Rogers.

On Friday night at Wartburg Speedway Kerr was caught up in a wreck and had to restart from the rear. He was able to move through the pack to eighth before the checkered flag fell. Saturday night at Cleveland Speedway he lost an engine in qualifying. He rolled out the back up car and started in the rear again moving up to eight when the checkered flag fell.

“In the last few races we have spent a lot of time coming from the back of the pack and it shows, especially in the point race,” said Kerr. “There are times that you miss everything and there are times you can’t miss a thing. We haven’t missed much in the last month or so.”

Kerr went on to say that sometimes things work out for the best. Like starting in the back at Cleveland was probably not such a bad thing as it kept him out of the big wreck on lap 36.

“I think there were 10 or 12 cars involved in that one. If we had not lost the engine in qualifying we would most likely have been right in the middle of it and could have needed two wreckers to load the car,” continued Kerr.

Going in to the Advance Thunder season finale this Saturday at The Mountain Kerr likes his chances and the team feels they are ripe for a good outing.

“The Mountain is our home track and we usually run well there. That and the fact that we have plenty of support from family, friends and fans gives us a good feeling going into this last race,” concluded Kerr.
