MARYVILLE, TN (Feb. 4) With the first 20 cars set for the 50-lap Winter Freeze at Screven Speedway the rains came, postponed the race and washed out a good start for the Blount Motorsports Team’s 2011 season.
Billy Ogle Jr., the newest member of the BMS team qualified second and Tommy Kerr qualified 14th out of the 32 cars on hand at the 3/8-mile oval. They both lined up in the second heat with Bill on the pole and Tommy starting fourth. A second place finish for Ogle and a fourth place finish for Kerr put both of them in the $10,000 to win main event.
The rains came before the consolation races were run and the field was set so all of the night’s preliminary events were for naught. The race was rescheduled for November 2.
“We thought we had fast time and it was close, but one of the local guys who knew that track better than we did snuck in there,” grinned Billy who had never seen the track before. “It being the first time out with the I was really pleased with how well we ran and how the team worked together.”
Tommy agreed with Ogle on the teamwork and was please with his night except for giving Clint Smith too much room in the heat race.
“I should have finished right behind Billy in the heat race, but I gave Smith too much of an opening right there at the end and I ended up fourth,” said Kerr. “We were both pretty good and were looking forward to the feature when the rains came.”
With the weather still iffy the team heads to Golden Isles Speedway for the first race of the two race Super Bowl of Racing VII.
