MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 18) At Smoky Mountain Speedway Saturday night both Blount Motorsport entries were in the pits watching when the checkered flag fell on the Clash at the Mountain. Nobody can remember the last time that both BMS entries recorded a DNF in the same race.

“About all you can say about Saturday night is that it was one of those nights. One of those frustrating nights that leaves you shaking your head and wondering what you did to deserve this,” said David with a negative headshake and a shrug.

Donald started fifth and Tommy started seventh on the grid. Although his car was tight Donald would run in the top five until the power steering belt came off taking the oil pump belt with it. Donald would retire and be scored eleventh in the final rundown. When another car caught a rut on lap six Tommy was collected and went to the rear. Later in the race a flat tire would send him back to the rear and ultimately to the pits. He was scored twelfth.

“The crew chief screwed up and got Donald’s car too tight. He was all right on the restarts, but then the car would tighten up. When the oil pump belt came off that was it. Tommy’s two trips to the rear for the altercation and the flat doomed him. Bottom line is we had two DNFs tonight and I can’t remember that happening before,” concluded David.

The next race, the Lucas Oil Scorcher at Volunteer Speedway, is Thursday night and the BMS team is scrambling to get everything ready to go. If things work out Thursday the team will race The John Shaw Memorial at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday night.
