MARYVILLE, Tenn (Apr. 20) Tommy and the Blount Motorsports Team’s weekend was not the best but it was an improvement over what has proven to be a rough start to the 2009 season.

Starting on the front row at Wartburg Speedway in the first of two Tennessee Thunder/SRRS weekend events Kerr would lead the first 22 laps before Mike Marlar passed him for the lead. Five laps after Marlar took the lead Tommy would end up spinning the Turner Industrial Supply/GEOServices sponsored GW Performance Rocket in order to keep from running over a lapped car.

“We had a good car, but the combination of lapped cars and a tight little race track got me,” said Tommy. “After the spin we went to the rear and had made it back up to sixth when the driver had brain fade and drove the car into the wall.”

Tommy was scored 19th in the final tally.

On Saturday night the scene shifted to Tennessee Thunder/SRRS event number two at the Mountain Raceway Park Tommy started second and ran second to pole sitter Randy Weaver for all 40 laps.

“Early in the race Weaver and I were pretty even. As the race went on Weaver’s car stayed the same and mine got a little tight,” continued Kerr. “We were able to challenge him (Weaver) early, but not late.”

This weekend Kerr and the BMS team will be racing at Volunteer Speedway. On Friday night is an open practice and Saturday night there is a $3,000 to win Late Model feature.

Blount Motorsports enjoys sponsorship from Blount Excavating, Stowers Machinery Corp., Kelso, Turner Industrial Supply, GEOServices, Cast Stone, Wine and Spirits Cellar, Insurance Partners, Explosive Specialists and the newest addition Arnold Trucking of Tellico Plains Tenn.

Tommy races a GW Performance Rocket chassis with power from Custom Race Engines, shocks from Öhlins, chassis and suspension components from TWM, seats from Butlerbilt and tires from Hoosier Racing Tires.
