MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Jan 3) Tommy Kerr and the Blount Motorsports Team have been busy over the winter as they prepare for the 2010 season to get under way. The season for Blount Motorsports will most likely begin on February 4 with the Lucas Oil Series event at East Bay Raceway Park outside of Tampa, Fla.
“We were looking forward to starting the season with the Southern All Star Super Bowl of Racing at Golden Isles Speedway, but it would be difficult for us to be ready for those races. We need the extra week we gain by starting our season at East Bay,” said, Larry Garner, one of the team owners. “With that said, if we find that we are not where we want to be in time for East Bay we will start the season at Volusia.”
If they start their season with three races at East Bay the team will travel across Florida to race two WoO and four UMP Late Model events during the 39th Annual Florida Dirt Car Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, FL. Other than defending their 2009 Southern Nationals title in mid-season their schedule is still up in the air.
“Right now it looks like we will race the bigger events in the area. After seeing what some of the other series schedules look like we will be able to lock in the schedule for the year,” said Tommy. “We are definitely going to Eldora for the Dream and the World 100 and most likely will add the North/South at Florence Speedway and some other of the premier events to the schedule.”
Larry and Tommy made a quick trip to Rocket right after New Years and brought home their second 2010 Rocket Chassis. The first 2010 Rocket lacks a couple days of work before it is race ready. When it’s finished they will start on the second chassis. The team will start the season with two new 2010 and one 2009 Rocket Chassis.
