MARYVILLE, Tenn. (May 18) A race team wants to win every race they start and Blount Motorsports is no exception, but there are some races that mean more than others. The Scott Sexton Memorial scheduled for this Saturday at Volunteer Speedway is one that is right on top of the list for Blount Motorsports.
Sexton was a fixture on the tracks in East Tennessee for two decades and died in 2013 by a rare blood disorder at the age of 46. David Bryant knew Sexton for most of his life and worked and raced with the East Tennessee hot shoe for over 12 years.
“Scott was one of a kind. No matter where he was on the track he was the car you watched, because he had it wide open and sideways. He was only interested in going fast,” said David. “We have finished second three times in his race and it would mean a lot to me and the team to win that race.”
Over the years Tommy Kerr built Sexton a number of race cars and raced with and against him.
“Scott could take a car that wasn’t all that good and one way or another before the night was over he would have the car somewhere up front and put on a show doing it,” said Tommy. “He loved to go fast and have fun. If you were around Scott Sexton you were having fun.
It would be a pleasure and a honor to win that race Saturday night.”
Weather permitting Donald and the Blount Motorsports team will be at Crossville on Friday for the Southern Nationals Bonus race. On Saturday night Tommy will join Donald and the team at Volunteer Speedway looking to win this years Scott Sexton Memorial.
