MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Mar. 25) After a couple of rainouts the BMS team hoped to put the fickle spring weather behind them when they headed for Lavonia Speedway for the Southern All Star event last weekend. The weather stayed dry and they came away from the 3/8 mile clay oval with a seventh place finish.

Tommy qualified the BMS Custom Race Engines/GWP Rocket/Arnold Trucking Late Model 12th and started 122h on the grid. With the race track pretty much one groove it was difficult to pass, but he was able to move up and finish seventh in the 50-lap feature.

“We had a good car, but when the track locks down I don’t care how good the car is you are going to be hard pressed to pass many cars,” said Tommy. “You are never pleased with anything short of a win, but under the circumstances I think we had a pretty good night.”

Tommy went on to say that he needed to improve on his qualifying.

“I used to be a good qualifier. I don’t know what happened, but it got away from me. With cars as close as they are today and with a lot of tracks becoming one groove I need to really pick up my qualifying'” continued Tommy. “If I would have qualified fifth or sixth we would have had a shot at winning or at least a good finish. But when you qualify mid pack you are really limiting what you can do.”

The next outing for Tommy and the BMS Team is the Colossal at The Dirt Track at Lowes. The two-day event is this Friday and Saturday March 27 and 28. If rain postpones the $50,000 to win WoO sanctioned event they will take a shot at racing the Tennessee Thunder event at The Mountain on Saturday night.
