MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 11) When Donald jumped the cushion and smacked the wall in the second heat for the World 100 Thursday night prelim it put the team behind and they were never able to catch up.
Donald started on the pole of Thursday night’s second heat along side Jimmy Mars. Mars took the early lead with Donald jumping the cushion and hitting the turn one wall on the second lap. The car received considerable damage and they were they not able to qualify for the event. Plus it put them behind for the rest of the weekend.
“We qualified good, had a good car, but one of Eldora’s walls bit us again,” said David. “We were able to get the car fixed for Friday night, but we got behind and stayed that way for the weekend.”
On Friday they drew that 16th qualifying spot and the track got faster as qualifying went on and Donald started and finished fifth in the fourth heat. Started outside front row in the second consi and finished fourth.
“We had a fast race car, but we just couldn’t get into any kind of a rhythm,” continue David. “We didn’t make the Friday night race either so we were way behind going into Saturday.”
Starting positions in Saturday night’s heat races were determined by where you finished in the two prelims so McIntosh and the team knew they were in for an uphill battle on Saturday.
On Saturday Donald started 16th in the fifth heat and worked his way to eighth. He started 11th in the second consi and finished 9th. The top five transferred.
“We were fast all weekend and we had the speed to race, but after getting behind on Thursday we just couldn’t get things to click. Nothing fell into place like we needed it to,” concluded David.
Donald and the team will take this weekend off to rest up and get ready for the remainder of the 2017 season. The next race for BMS will be the Iron-Man/SNBS event at Smoky Mountain Speedway on Saturday September 23.
