Maryville, Tenn. (Jan. 7) Tommy Kerr and the Blount Motorsports Team received the Advance Auto Parts Award in Excellence at the 2007 Advance Thunder Banquet in Knoxville, Tenn. over the holidays.

The award is presented to the driver that displayed a high degree of dedication and sportsmanship throughout the 2007 season. It came on top the other cash and prizes they received for their third place finish in the regional Late Model series and as a complete surprise.

“You don’t expect an award like this. When your dedication to the sport is acknowledged it means a lot,” said Kerr who has been involved in short track racing all of his life. “I know everybody says that racing is not a team sport, but you have to have a team to accomplish anything in racing. And I happen to have one of the best.”

“We have a first class operation and work very hard at not only maintaining a high level of competition, but to do what we can to promote and further the sport,” said team owner Larry Garner. “We have a top team with a great bunch of sponsors and fans behind us and this award is really for everyone involved with Blount Motorsports.

The BMS team is currently looking at schedules of area series and race tracks to determine  what they will do in 2008.  They hope to have a schedule out soon.
