MARYVILLE, Tenn. (July 24) Tommy and the BMS team had high hopes going into the Advance Thunder race at Mountain Raceway Park, but a broken steering rack put them in survival mode that made for a long night.

The power steering went south early in the evening and in an attempt to correct the problem the team changed power steering pumps and did what they could with what they had in the truck. The culprit was the steering rack, a part that couldn’t be repaired and they didn’t have a spare.

“Without the power steering the car wouldn’t turn and we were basically a weapon out there,” said Tommy. “I spent the night hanging on and to be honest we are lucky to finish as well as we did.”

With a new rack installed the GRT will be a backup car tonight as the team rolls out the Rayburn to run the Southern National event at Crossville. The plans for the rest of the week call for racing the remainder of the Southern National events at Cleveland on Thursday, Volunteer on Friday and Tazewell on Saturday.

“We would run the Southern National race tomorrow (Wednesday) night at Tri-County, but the field is set from last weeks rain out," said Tommy.
