MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Aug 10) Tommy Kerr and the BMS Motorsports team scored a fifth place finish in Summer Sizzler #1 at Volunteer Speedway and a second in Summer Sizzler #2 at Tazewell to take the overall point championship and pick up the $1,000 bonus.
Friday night at Volunteer Kerr ran in third for much of the race before being relegated to fourth by Mark Vineyard. On the white flag lap Jeff Maupin went from fifth to third which put Kerr fifth in the final tally.
“The car didn’t like the outside tonight like it did a couple of weeks ago, but we still had a respectable run,” said Kerr.
On Saturday night the scene shifted to Tazewell Speedway for round two of the Summer Sizzler. Kerr running in the fourth spot on lap 12 of the 50 lap event would move past Mike Weeks and Anthony White to move into second. Using the bottom groove he tracked down leader Vic Hill. After the restart on lap 31 Kerr would use the whole race track to try to find a way around Hill. His efforts were to no avail as he ended up settling for a second place finish.
“I was all over Vic (Hill) but only way I could have gotten by him was to rough him up. He raced me clean the other night at the Mountain and there was no way I was going to touch him if I could help it,” continued Kerr.
The combination of his fifth and second place finishes were enough for him to have the highest number of points and win the Pizza Plus $1,000 bonus.
“It takes a lot of money to race these cars and that $1,000 bonus means a lot. It is great to see the two tracks, Pizza Plus and everyone get together to put a show like this on,” concluded Kerr.
This weekend the BMS team will run two TTDCS events. Friday night at Wartburg Speedway and Saturday night at Tri-County Race Track.
