MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 2) Tommy Kerr and the Blount Motorsports team had high hopes for a fast start in Super Bowl V at Golden Isles (Ga.) Speedway, but it didn’t happen. When the three-race event was over the team had come up short by usually one position and had not made a race.

“We had a good car, but there were a bunch of good cars there and we came up just a little short,” said Tommy. “We spent a lot of time one position from making the feature, but that is the way it goes sometimes.”

The top three in each of six heats transferred and the top two in each of two consolation races transferred to the feature. And there were two provisional starters. Wednesday night’s event was rained out. On Thursday night Kerr finished fourth in his heat and sixth in the consi. On Friday night he finished fifth in the heat and sixth in the consi and on Saturday night he finished fourth in his heat and ninth in the consi.

Kerr will rejoin the team at East Bay Raceway Park outside of Tampa, Fla. on Thursday and will race the Lucas Oil Series Late Model Dirt events on the third mile oval, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. After East Bay the team will move to the east coast of Florida and race Monday through Saturday at Volusia Speedway Park. The 3/8s mile clay oval will be hosting The Dirtcar Nationals featuring UMP and World of Outlaw Late Models on these days.
