MARYVILLE, Tenn (Mar. 10) The two nights of NDRL racing at Smoky Mountain Speedway were as different as night and day for Billy Ogle Jr., Tommy Kerr and the Blount Motorsports Team. For Billy Friday night was a good night and for Tommy not so much. On Saturday night the reverse was true as Tommy had a better night than Billy.
On Friday night Billy was fast qualifier in the second group. In the 40-lap feature that ran caution free and took a little over 12 minutes to complete he finished fourth. Saturday night was not as good as Friday night as he started 12th and had worked his way to seventh before mechanical problems sent him to the pits.
“After all the problems we had at the Bama Bash to run good here on Friday night was a relief,” said Billy in the pits on Saturday. “It even made having problems again on Saturday night a little easier to take. Not much but a little.”
For Tommy, Friday night was his problem night when he missed making the race by one position. On Saturday night he started and finished ninth in the feature.
“Friday night we messed up qualifying and dug a hole we were never able to climb out of. Saturday night was better although nowhere near what we had hoped for,” said Tommy. “One thing for sure, it is not easy to be sharp and on top of your game when you race a limited schedule. About the time things start feeling good in the car its over.”
This coming weekend the BMS team will be at Volunteer Speedway for the Spring Nationals Spring Thaw event that is two complete shows. On Friday night Ogle will be racing and on Saturday night both Ogle and Kerr will take to the track.
